They’ve been using the same vague statements since at least 2013. And in June 2013, they claimed in a Presenters-Only Facebook group that they were working on it.

In May 2013, a presenter (MLM Rep) asked about it on Facebook. Melanie Maxfield Huscroft (one founder) commented, “We are in the process of become registered and certified…” Derek Maxfield (the other founder) replied, “I would say you can tell her to review the ingredients herself and form her own opinion but I would say we do try to play it up unofficially.” (Screenshots on Elle Beau’s Younique blog, if you are interested.)

So their founders’ official reply was that 1: they’re working on it and 2: they unofficially play up the cruelty free label without actually being cruelty free.

Eight years later, they STILL haven’t even applied for certification as far as anyone knows. That says it all.

Just read an update Coty no longer owns Younique but according to Cruelty free Kitty Coty isn’t Cruelty Free even though they claim to be .

1. Any company that sells personal care products to China is NOT Cruelty-free, because China requires animal testing on personal care products sold to China.
2. A company that Claims to be Cruelty-free but does Not pursue certification of being Cruelty-free cannot be trusted to be Cruelty-free and is likely hiding behind their claim, hoping customers are gullible enough to believe the “claim” and buy their products.
3. A company that truly does not want to contribute to Animal Cruelty will elect to only use responsibly sourced Cruelty-free ingredients.
STOP CLAIMING TO BE CRUELTY-FREE OR BECOME CERTIFIED CRUELTY FREE

That is not what I read here, at all. I read in their letter that Younique are shopping and selling their products to other countries. Not from them.

Nearly end of 2019 and same story being told… Not looking for a certification which is easy to obtain means only there is something they don’t want to confirm

While this may seem silly, I know of two reps from Younique who DO say their products are cruelty-free. I have straight up asked them the question, when they ask if I’d like to purchase mascara, presenter kits, blush, foundation etc….I say , “Is younique cruelty-free?” and they have ALwAYS said, “yes, Our products are cruelty-free.” While this may be only two confirmed on my part, I am quiet sure there are many more who claim this. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 or 200,000 + who say this, the idea is one bad apple spoils it for the rest. I felt betrayed by my friends….I even posted on our FB page the cruelty free 2019 lists from ethical elephant, PETA, cruelty free kitty ….Assuming they would give it a look over. Main point-Younique is NOT cruelty free.

When was Younique in court?

Also – our fibers are not made from green tea fibers. That was the original formula, which was pulled over 2 years ago.

One more thing – all ingredients are listed on each product page.

Younique does not claim to be cruelty-free. Our founders, nor anyone at the corporate level, have never stated that Younique is cruelty-free. That’s the thing – you don’t see us on the lists because we don’t have that certification. Younique has been very transparent about that. Not sure what the confusion is.
